Snug Cove residents can expect night time noise beginning next week, as work gets under way on a new ferry dock bumper.

Sounds from pile driving and welding will be heard for six nights.

B.C. Ferries said in a statement that the bumper, called a dolphin, is necessary for safety reasons.

"Every effort will be made to keep noise to a minimum," the company said in the statement.

Some of the work can only be done at low tide, and overnight work will begin after the last sailing of the Capilano, starting next Wednesday.

The work is not expected to disrupt ferry service.

Night time construction will be on November 23, 24, 25, 28, 29 and 30.
