Our error caused ferry fee headaches

A number of Bowen Island passengers were caught offguard by price increases last week.

Attempting to beat the clock to the fare increases, several motorists went to purchase tickets prior to the price increase.

A story in last weeks Undercurrent incorrectly stated that the price hike was effective Monday March 24. In fact, the price hike was effective immediately. The Undercurrent apologises for the error and any aggravation caused by it.

During peak season-late June to Early September-the short ferry ride to and from Snug Cove will cost $21 for a car-and-driver. That's an increase of $3.25 over the current fare of $17.70, which was in place year round.

The price increase is a little easier to take during the low season. The car-and-driver toll will be only $18.50 before June 26 and after September 7.

Walk-on passengers will pay an extra 50 cents, for a total of $4.75, during the high season and an extra quarter($4.50)during the low season.

BC Ferrries announced the new system-wide increased fares last Wednesday.
