Trust tackles ferry issues

Ferry rates will be among the hot topics at the Islands Trust Council's next quarterly meeting in Victoria.

Tom Ward, the new president of the BC Ferry Corporation will be at the meeting to discuss BC Ferry service cost recovery strategies and stakeholder processes within the context of the Islands Trust.

The meeting will be at the Coast Harbourside Hotel, December 4, 5 and 6. The public is invited to attend the Trust Council session beginning on Thursday December 4 at 10 a.m. and concluding on Saturday, December 6 by noon. Persons or organizations wishing to address or present petitions to the Islands Trust Council at the Business meeting commencing at 1 p.m., December 5, must receive an appointment through the Executive Committee. The request including the subject and name/address of the speaker(s) must be sent to the Islands Trust, Second Floor, 1627 Fort Street [Victoria], B.C. V8R 1H8, (Fax: (250) 405-5155) by 4:30 p.m., Friday, November 28.

On Thursday, December 4 and Friday, December 5, Trust Council workshops include:
FORESTRY SESSION -- Thursday 10 a.m. - noon
Trustees will review island mapping data and Forest Renewal BC programs to develop a strategy for Island communities to manage forest land in a sustainable manner. Lee Doney, Chief Executive Officer of Forest Renewal BC is planning to be in attendance.

COMMUNITY PLANNING SESSION -- Thursday 1:30 - 4 p.m.
Islands Trust planners and Trustees will discuss tools and strategies to review and update official community plans.

TRUST FUND SESSION -- Thursday 4:15 - 5 p.m.
Trustees will consider ways to enhance funding for the Trust Fund Board's acquisition of significant lands.

B.C. FERRIES SESSION -- Noon - 1:30 p.m. with Tom Ward
