BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay fall guy retired this week.

Terminal manager Andy Murdoch plans to spend his idle hours working on his Keats Is. property, said his replacement, Dave Elliott.

Transportation committee member Pat McGuire -- who attended a going-away lunch for Murdoch on Wednesday -- said Murdoch will be missed.

And -- despite his being the person to whom commuters came with complaints -- she thinks he will miss Horseshoe Bay.

"He's definitely not going to miss the complaints, but he's going to miss the people," McGuire said.

Meanwhile, a pile driving rig is due to arrive at Horseshoe Bay next week to begin replacing parts of berth Two.

The renovations have forced a change in the Bowen ferry timetable for the two earliest sailings for the next two months.

The two first sailings each day from both the Snug Cove and Horseshoe Bay terminals will leave 15 minutes earlier in order to reduce congestion.

Departure times are now 5.30 a.m. and 6.20 a.m. from Snug Cove, and 5.50 a.m. and 6.45 a.m. from Horseshoe Bay.

Later sailings are at the usual times.

Elliott said he expects the work to be finished by March 17.
